What is the Nova Scotia Chiropractic and Naturopathic Regulator?

The Nova Scotia Chiropractic and Naturopathic Regulator (NSCNR) is responsible for helping to make sure chiropractic and naturopathic care is safe, professional, and competent in the Province of Nova Scotia. We take this job seriously and work to protect the public.

Chiropractors in Nova Scotia have been regulated since 1972, and Naturopathic doctors were added in 2026. This means the profession’s regulatory body sets rules, under a law called the Regulated Health Professions Act, to determine who are qualified to practice in the Chiropractic and/or Naturopathic professions. Registration and licensure requires specific training, examination and competency standards are met.

Once registered to practice, the NSCNR continues its regulatory role by enforcing a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Ongoing competency is monitored with mandatory continued training as well as regular practice reviews. In cases where concerns of conduct arise, complaint investigation and discipline are also the role of the Regulator.

The Board includes about 50% registered Chiropractors and Naturopathic doctors as well as approximately 50% members of the public, who are appointed by the Nova Scotia Government. This helps ensure a fair and balanced approach when reviewing concerns or making decisions.

The role of the Board, as well as its authority and powers, is set out in the Regulated Health Professions Act , General Regulations, and Regulations Respecting Chiropractic and Naturopathy. Please see our Laws and Standards section for detailed information or the Government of Nova Scotia website.
